About the Role
We are seeking an energetic, compassionate, and organized Volunteer Coordinator to recruit, train, support, and inspire our incredible team of volunteers. This position plays a vital role in creating meaningful volunteer experiences while ensuring the shelter has the support needed to care for hundreds of animals each month.
Key Responsibilities
Recruit, onboard, and orient new volunteers for both our clinic and shelter.
Schedule and coordinate daily volunteer activities.
Train volunteers on clinic/shelter procedures, animal handling, safety protocols, and customer interactions.
Serve as the primary point of contact for volunteers, answering questions and providing ongoing support.
Organize volunteer appreciation and recognition initiatives.
Develop and expand volunteer opportunities throughout the organization.
Coordinate corporate volunteer groups, school groups, and community service projects.
Assist with foster recruitment and volunteer engagement.
Help organize community outreach events, adoption events, and educational programs.
Assist with social media content highlighting volunteers, fosters, and community involvement.
Collaborate with shelter staff to ensure volunteer efforts support daily operations.
Track volunteer hours, maintain volunteer records, and ensure required documentation is completed.
Assist in general shelter operations and provide support wherever needed to ensure the smooth daily operation of the organization.
Provide front office support by answering phones, greeting visitors, and assisting with day-to-day administrative tasks.
Process animal adoptions, including counseling adopters and completing adoption paperwork.
Schedule animal intakes and assist members of the public with surrender and intake appointments.
Work occasional weekends as part of a rotating schedule.
Requirements
Excellent communication and customer service skills.
Outgoing, positive personality with a passion for connecting with people and animals.
Strong organizational and time management skills.
Ability to work independently while also collaborating with a team.
Self-motivated with basic reading, writing, computer, and data entry skills.
Comfortable handling animals and working in a fast-paced shelter environment.
Willing to perform hands-on work and isn't afraid to get a little dirty.
Passion for animal welfare and community engagement.
Reliable, dependable, and able to manage multiple priorities.
Must be at least 18 years of age.
Valid driver's license and reliable transportation required.
Weekend availability required.
Preferred Qualifications
Previous volunteer management, customer service, nonprofit, education, or leadership experience.
Experience working with animals is a plus, but not required.
Experience with social media, event planning, or community outreach is beneficial.
Compensation:
Starting $10 (Can be Negotiated Based on Experience)
