G.A.I.N. Services…

The Yigo Animal Shelter is open 9am to 5pm every day of the year. Nearly 5,000 animals are relinquished at the shelter every year. GAIN attempts to find loving homes for these animals and is successful in 20% of their attempts.

Guam Department of Agriculture catches dogs and cats and brings them to the shelter. They are also responsible to handle animal cruelty cases and removal of carcasses from the island’s roads. Animals brought to the shelter until they are reclaimed or adopted.

Residents who have lost or found a pet notify GAIN and using our Facebook and My Space, the pet information is sent out island wide.

Adopt a Kennel

Mona Roberts suggested placing kennel signs at each of the adoption kennels. Individuals, school groups, military organizations and private companies have sponsored kennels. For $250 names, pictures and logos are put on a 16” x 4” acrylic sign and posted on the kennel for one year.

2nd Chance Boonie Rescue

This program was set up in response to the successful Guam Greyhound Rescue when GAIN was relentless in securing nearly 200 greyhounds that were shipped to Greyhound Rescue Groups in the states. Numerous residents asked why the greyhounds got special treatment – so we decided why can’t we provide extraordinary attempts to rescue boonie animals. The program is designed to locate and save animals that would otherwise be euthanized. Individual stories can be found under 2nd Chance Boonie Rescue.

Fredalyn: It Takes an Island Community

This video is of a kitten rescued from a dumpster and through the efforts of the veterinarian, pet store and volunteers the kitten not only survived but is living a very great life.

Collaborative Sterilization Program

Working with four of the five veterinarian practices on Guam, and the village mayors, GAIN sponsors a FREE and low cost avenue for residents to get their pets sterilized. Residents pick up the coupons at the mayor’s offices, schedule an appointment. The pet is delivered to their choice of veterinarian, the surgery is done, additional educational information may be given and the pet returned home.
